PEIRCE MYP VISUAL ARTS-ASSESSMENT

Students are not graded on artistic talent. They are graded on the learning objective and the effort shown while demonstrating it. 

Grading Scale (10 points):

  • 10: Mastery - Distinguished! You have a strong conceptual understanding & exceptional ability to apply each skill set.

  • 9-8: Proficient - Skilled! You are showing quality effort and ability.

  • 7-6: Developing - Emerging! You are still working at a fundamental level and can improve.

  • 5: Not meeting the standard 


The FOUR content-based standards:

  • Creating

  • Presenting

  • Responding

  • Connecting

 

   Student Expectations:

  • Students will quietly line up in the hallway and have out what they need for class.

  • Students will take notes and make preparatory sketches in their IB MYP Progress Journal to record their learning and process. 

  • Students will complete all projects using craftsmanship (see definition below). 

  • Students will participate in all activities throughout the year. 

  • Students will exhibit the IB learner profile characteristics in all aspects of the class. 

 

Assessment:

  • Grades 6-8

  • Summative Assessment-20%-Unit Tests, Projects, Research Papers, & Final Drafts

  • Formative Assessment-15%-Chapter Tests & Quizzes, Rough Drafts

  • Skill Building- 50%-Classwork, Group Work/Collaborative Assignments, Peer Editing, Guided Practice

  • Work Habits-15%- Home Practice, Participation, Pre-Writing, Guided Note Taking
